Handcrafted, one-of-one hats - shaped by hand out of Lake County, Illinois (with a quiet second home base out west he won't admit to), for people who want to wear something nobody else owns.
Before HatterBs, Andrew spent his career on the other side of the badge - a life built on structure, discipline, and paying close attention to detail. When he traded that path for a hat block and a steam kettle, the discipline came with him. It just found a quieter, more personal outlet.
Every hat that leaves his hands carries that same attention - hand-shaped crowns, brims steamed and set by feel, and materials sourced the way a craftsman sources them: a bolt of vintage raw selvage denim out of Chicago here, a run of Japanese raw denim there, aged Italian leather when the piece calls for it. Nothing off a shelf, nothing mass-produced.
Andrew travels to find the goods that make a HatterBs hat a HatterBs hat - hunting down the denim, the leather, and the one-of-a-kind trim pieces in person rather than ordering off a catalog. That same drive took him through professional hat-making training, so every crown, brim, and crease is shaped with real technique behind it - not just good instincts.
Andrew calls himself a hat artist, not a hat maker - and once you've held one of his pieces, you understand why. This isn't a product line. It's a craft, made one hat, one customer, one story at a time.
From a first custom build to keeping a favorite hat in shape for years to come - this is the full range of what Andrew does.

Raw selvage denim from Chicago. Japanese raw denim. Aged Italian leather. One client's hatband even started as a flattened bullet casing, etched by hand into a guitar pick. Every material has a story before it ever touches a hat.

It was a great experience from start to finish. Andrew paid attention to the little things that actually meant something to me, and he didn't just make me a hat, he made me one nobody else has.
My old cavalry hat from my Army days didn't make it - Andrew built me a new one from scratch, and even worked my badge number into it. Now it's the one piece that's really mine.
My son helped design this one for my birthday. He's only twelve, but he had all the right ideas - it's completely one of a kind, and it's my favorite hat I own.
I didn't know Andrew could make hats for my girls too - they're total girly-girls who also ride dirt bikes, and somehow he nailed the look for both of them.
What an amazing experience at HatterB's! My 16 year old son is a born cowboy at heart, and he ended up designing not just one hat, but two, working side by side with Andrew. Andrew was wonderful! Incredibly patient, knowledgeable, talented, and clearly passionate about what he does. He's a true artist!
Yes, I can do witch’s hats too.
